The Michal Prokop Trio, also known as Nu-Trio at the time of its founding, was formed in 1987 by three longtime musical friends and collaborators: Michal Prokop, guitarist Luboš Andršt, and violinist Jan Hrubý.
From the very beginning, this was a project distinct from Prokop’s work with the rock band Framus Five in terms of both repertoire and style, featuring a significantly greater emphasis on improvisation, even though the basic structure of the setlist remained unchanged for years. Following Luboš Andršt’s health issues in 2020, the trio suspended its activities; after a hiatus and a personnel change, it resumed with Pavel Marcel, who also serves as the new guitarist for Framus Five.
It remains true that the repertoire and sound of the Michal Prokop Trio differ from those of Framus Five, although, of course, some of the singer’s most famous songs appear in both projects.
