EMMA SMETANA & JORDAN HAJ

EMMA SMETANA

Emma Smetana is a Czech-French composer, singer, actress, and TV presenter.

After completing her master’s degree in political science with a focus on international and European relations at Sciences Po in Paris and Freie Universität in Berlin, she joined TV Nova, the most-watched Czech commercial station, as the anchor of the main news program (2012–2016).

After the birth of her first daughter, Lennon, she joined the internet television station DVTV, where she hosted interviews until the end of 2020. Since then, she has worked as a freelance host and journalist (she hosts the annual ESET Science Award ceremony honoring the best Slovak scientists on Slovak television STVR, contributes regularly to Vogue Czechoslovakia, hosted an interview podcast from the Karlovy Vary Film Festival for Nespresso, and a series of interviews in Bali for Esquire magazine).

She launched her music career with her debut album *What I’ve Done* (2016), and the music video for her first single, *Waiting*, earned her her first nomination for the Anděl Music Award. In 2022, she released the album *By Now* with her partner Jordan Haj.
Her songs and arrangements reflect the diverse range of genres that have influenced her since childhood—soul, R&B, indie-rock, ’90s pop, rom pop, THE BEATLES, electronic music, and classic ’80s disco.

Her best-known songs include the ballads “Tahle jedna vteřina” and “Dream On,” as well as the energetic dance hits “Chase It” and “Night Races.” Duets with Jordan Haj—“By Now,” “No Fire,” “Love Is Blind,” and “Lost and Found”—have also become successful singles. In total, her music videos have over 13 million views on YouTube.
