YELLOW SISTERS

Yellow Sisters is originally an all-female vocal group performing their own original material. Their performances are renowned for their genre diversity, offering a musical mix brimming with soul, funk, reggae and world music, powerful harmonies and creative arrangements. The singers experiment with melody and rhythm, seeking new ways to express themselves and work with their voices. Since 2015, they have been performing with their regular guest, beatboxer Honza Melichar.

In 2025, the group celebrated 20 years on the European music scene with a multimedia production, which included a concert tour culminating in the musical theatre performance *Cesta* at the New Town Hall in Prague. There was also an exhibition of photographs and costumes from the history of the Yellow Sisters, alongside paintings by leading Czech artists. A new album, *Labyrint hlasů*, is due to be released this autumn.

The group was formed in 2005. A year later, they won the “Colours Talents” competition, which led to the release of their debut album, *Singalana*, on the Indies Scope label. During their career, the Yellow Sisters have released seven albums, performed in 16 countries around the world, toured Spain and performed for two Czech presidents.

They were introduced to a wider audience during a live television broadcast of the TýTý Awards (2006). 
They were subsequently chosen by the English actor Michael Palin of Monty Python to feature in the BBC travel documentary *New Europe*. 

In the years that followed, they opened a concert for the world-famous Blind Boys of Alabama, gave a private performance for Bobby McFerrin at the Prague Congress Centre, featured on a remix compilation of the soundtrack to the Japanese film *Nautica*, performed at the Czech Ball in Brussels to mark the Czech Republic’s assumption of the European Union presidency, and accepted an invitation to London, where an hour-long programme about them was produced for BBC Radio. 

Their second album, *Tubab Woman* (2010), reached number seven in the global world music album chart ‘Spin The Globe’s Top Ten’, alongside Salif Keita and the Gotan Project. 

In 2015, they performed at a prestigious a cappella festival in London, as well as in Rorschach, Switzerland, and at the European Cultural Festival in Algiers, where they represented the Czech Republic. At an international vocal ensemble competition in Graz, Austria, they were awarded the “Golden Diploma”. 

In the same year, beatboxer Honza Melichar joined the all-female line-up. Together, they released a series of three successful albums for young audiences, *Zvěřinec* (2012, 2017, 2022), followed in 2023 by *Zpěvník pro ukulele*. 

In 2023, Antonia Nyass left the group, and the a cappella group continues as a vocal trio with beatboxing. During the 2025 season, singer Michal Strnad from the vocal group Skety will join the line-up as a guest.
